Hey Raff ! as usual, as it's your first introduction to daRKnOiSE : who are Gory Blister  and what kind of music do you play ?
Gory Blister LiveRaff : Well, everything started with Joe. He is the elder member still on the run; we began playing at the same time but I was in a different band then; I joined Gory Blister in 1993. Music was the only dream we had, the story so far, tells that many things, good or bad, happened, but we always did walk a long path following our inspiration. In 1995 me and Joe moved to Milan to keep on playing death metal, cause in South Italy it was very hard. The other members quit, indeed. After a couple of demos we succeeded in releasing our debut mini CD Cognitive Sinergy and in Milan we got a new line up to play with on stage. In 2001 we recorded our real first album Art Bleeds and got a deal with Noise records for the Sonickattack project, but it was never realized, so it was Sekhmet records who published the record.
Probably the key event was for GORY BLISTER, to be part on ROCK HARD Germany compilation titled “UNERHORT” January 2002. It was an interesting chance to improve the band exposure around Europe. That issue sold over 51.000 copies. We are proud to say we play death metal 100%!

After 13 years of existance Gory Blister are becoming more and more notorius on the death metal scene and they've even been called the new Death ! are you satisfied with this ??
Raff : I personally began listening to Death’s album since the beginning. It’s definetly one of my main influence. Of course we are very proud that someone compared us to Death, but  I think it is a bit hazardous. We have grown up listening to records such as Consuming Impulse (Pestilence), Human (Death), Unquestionable Presence (Atheist), Focus (Cynic), Punishment For Decadence (Coroner), Altars Of Medness (Morbid Angel) and so on. For us it is natural to get some influence and keep the roots in those basic operas. So we cannot be and we don’t want to be the new Death, but we’re very glad of the comparison, cause it was the great Chuck who did create this kind of music.

Many people think that you are trying to be Death’s clone what do you have to say about that ??
Raff : Not at all! As I told you before, Death is one of our main influence and we’re very glad for their important contribute in world music but, if someone thinks we’re Death clone may be someone didn’t checked our latest stuff in the right way. You can bet it!
Let's now talk about you new release “Skymorphosis”...
Gory BlisterJoe : It’s definitely the best work we did till now. Skymorphosys’s songwriting puts together all the main experiences we did in the recent past, regarding both live and studio aspects.
With Skymorphosis, GORY BLISTER learned how to lead the song production from the very beginning, through the studio sessions to the end of all the process. This time we had the total control during any recording step and the focus on the sound we had in mind up till the finish line. That’s why it has a more personal sound than the previous one. It is an aggressive and no-compromise death metal album and represents what Gory Blister are now, just like a snapshot.

Let us know why you chose that name and what's it's meaning ?
Joe : It seems that our name sounds somewhat odd in English… well, when the name was thought up back in 1991, the idea was rage ready to break out. Now « Gory Blister » is more than a name for us. It represents all the efforts we put into our artistic life and we are proud to know that despite the name, people like our music.

A little description about the album, what does it mainly deal with ?
Joe :
Well, if in Art Bleeds you will find quotations from Joyce, Woolf, T. S. Eliot and so on, trying to explore the deep nature of inspiration, in this new record I wanted to write poems by my hand. I wanted to find an artistic dimension beyond everyday life and so I decided to use the cosmos as metaphor. I imagined events happening in the outer space, like love stories between dying stars (Quasars) or a supernatural dialog between man and God (Skymorphosis – Sin Legacy – Blood Sweating Wall). The only song that is out from the concept is I Shall Hang Myself, whom I felt I should dedicate to Sarah Kane. She is the first and likely the only artist who has dramaticly crossed the two parallel dimensions that are LIFE and ART. She died in 1999.

What are the main changes/evolutions comparing to Art Bleeds ?
Raff : The  sound is more compact than in the past. I think you could find three main moments on the album. From track 1 to 6, the listener is under siege, practically. The songs are really fast and aggressive. Track 7, “I shall hang myself” is maybe the strangest ever written by Gory Blister. The last part of the record shows the right equilibrium between brutal and technical arrangements, up to the last song, The Soul-Slitters, that may be a new starting point for our songwriting.

Tell us more about the writing, recording of this album, and how long did it take Gory Blister to make it
Raff : Usually, we write song even if we have no particular deadline, simply we love to do it. After the ART BLEEDS studio sessions was completed, while searching for the new members to join the band for gigs and future works, me and Joe began together to write some new stuff. So when it was time to write the songs for Skymorphosis, we only choose the best stuff written and get the new tracklist of the record. Once in the Fear Studios, we just put in practice all the experiences done after the previous recording sessions and we could follow closely the production step by step in order to achieve the sound we wanted.

“Skymorphosis” has been on stores since the 31st january, until now is it well recieved from the Italian and European public?

Raff :  It’s still early now to get an audience responce. The only feedback we’ve already got is from the press only and was very good. Promotion still has to do its own course and reach the targets. We have to wait the live response first on tour to understand how the things are going.

Last Fabuary you moved to a new label, Mascot Records from netherlands, are you satisfied with it ?and do we have to expect another album under the same label ?

Raff  :
Of course satisfied man! We are very glad of this big chance that Mascot Records gave us, this allows the band to keep on growing with the right support that any good band should have from his record label. We feel that they strongly believes in Gory Blister. Yes, you can expect another album under this label.

Considering your musical style, many people are wondering why there is only one guitar player, are you planning to add a new member to the band ? and what about the live performances ??
Raff : In past we always had line up problems, so the first goal was get a complete band first to make records and doing gigs. Second guitar player was not a priority. Usually while I’m writing riffs and phrases I consider any note on the complete chord. In this way I can change only some finger position to play 2 parts togheter and get the same dubbed tone effect while I’m on the stage.

We ask this question to everybody: Have you any idea about the Tunisian or Arabic metal scene ?
Raff : Not yet, but you don’t have to be disappointed with me because man, I’m so busy in my ordinary life beside the music that more than sometimes I’ ve got no idea about the Italian and European scene too, especially regarding the newcomer bands. You have also to consider that here the media talks of many other things coming from your countries, but, unfortunately, not music.

Do you think that the Italian scene which well known for power music, make it easy for bands like Gory Blister to come out ?

Raff : Bit hard I guess. Power Metal has a large audience in Italian Metal scene, and any sub-genre doesn’t make it easy to come up. But may be something is about to change.

How do you imagine Gory blister's future ?
Raff : I hope GORY BLISTER’s career will grow in the right way to allow any member of this band to make this his own job. So come on guys!!!! Get Skymorphosis in the record store and enjoy it!

That's it Raff this interview is over,  thank you for supporting us, last words are yours :)
Many many thanx for your support, we really appreciate it. We will be on tour very soon. So please keep in touch with the band visiting www.goryblister.com
We will upload dates and Venues very soon!
