Obscure,mystérieuse et théâtrale c'est ce qu'on
peut dire de la musique de Macbeth… Après quatre années d'absence, ce
groupe originaire de Milan, réapparaît avec un nouveau line-up,
un nouvel album, une nouvelle tournée…
Fabrizio fondateur, compositeur et batteur du groupe, a accepté de répondre à quelques questions…
For those Tunisian Metalheads which have never heard about you, can you introduce Macbeth ?
Well, I formed the band in 1995 and after two years we recorded the first and only demo tape “Nocturnal Embrace”. We signed a deal in 1998, so since that year Dragonheart records was our label. The same year we recorded “Romantic Tragedy’s Crescendo” that sold more than 12.000 copies all over Europe. After “Romantic Tragedy’s Crescendo” release, Nuclear Blast put a couple of our songs in “Metal Dreams vol. 2”, feat. Stratovarius, Helloween, Skid Row e Mr. Big and a song in “Beauty in Darkness vol.4” feat. Tiamat, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil.
In 2001 we recorded “Vanitas” that was very well reviewed and appreciated in Europe, South America, Baltic states and Taiwan too!
This year we released “Malae Artes”, our third album. We released a lot of interviews to promote it as you can see in the updated huge list in our website ;)
We played all over Italy in spring and we reached Mexico in summer for a tour.
In august the new album was released in U.S.A. too and we received good feedbacks.
Last show was few weeks ago in Milan with Epica…
Let’s take a while on your band name. "Macbeth", why did you choose this name ? Your italian roots ? Shakespeare?
The idea was to find a name to explain our music…
Our sound was the perfect fusion of the opposites: cruelty and sweetness, melody and violence.
It was also my favorite Shakespearean play…
This words is like the Chinese Yin-yang, the black and white shapes in a circle that represent interaction of the two energies. And so the same for my band, our sound is melodic and powerful at the same time. Two opposites in one.
That’s maybe explain the dramatic aspect of your music ?
Yes, in the Shakespeare’s Macbeth you can find pieces of poetry and horrible murders.
What are the influences that drives you to write lyrics and music ?
Lyrics born from my everyday life. So, life experience is the biggest influence. I can say the main subject of the album comes from the truth. But I can be inspired by everything, by movies, soundtracks, books, basically by reflections of my life…
Do not expect a negative album because our lyrics will teach you to open your eyes to search the other face of everything.
We listen to all kind of music… We like: Slayer, Hocico, Death, Enya, Porcupine Tree, Muse, Sigur Ros, Madonna, Queen, Sopor aeternus…
Our sound comes from a ton of stuff, (too many bands to be mentioned) because our roots are very different, but if you add them the result is MACBETH.
Since 1995 Macbeth release 3 albums. It’s less for a 10 years carreer. Can you tell us the reason?
Line up changes…that’s why.
It’s hard to find serious people and good musicians…
After a silent period, the band release this year a new CD, "Malae Arte". Is there differences between this « new born » and your past works ?
Malae Artes it' s always in MACBETH style but is a step ahead into something more mature.
About our new sound I can say that our symphonic element is still present although enhanced by aggressive guitars and very good voices melody. I’ve composed new songs with Max who’s the new guitarist. I like the new sound because is fresh and powerful too.
The music is catchy and direct, lyrics are easy to understand so music is hand in glove with lyrics. The new album shows the evolution of our sound and of our tecnique.
We’ve used carefully chosen sounds & voices and I believe that now we are heavier compared to the music we did in the past.
We note an evolution, what’s the reason behind it? The new line-up?
We had an evolution, of course, because that's normal you grow up, you listen to different kinds of music, you have different experiences.
But everything comes out naturally…I guess we learned to work in a different way, keeping the songwriting easy but intense.
We took care more carefully everything that had to do with the sound, the guitars especially. The guitars are really in your face in the new album and we used seven string guitars and you can hear the powerful sound compared to the past.
You also clearly see that we matured in the way we write songs. We went straight to final result avoiding all the useless things that you put into the songs.
MacbethOn this CD we find many marvelous songs, like “How Can Heaven Love Me”, from the diva Sarah Brightman, why did you cover this song ?
Thanx,We like very much this song… I think it fits perfectly…the song is similar to our new sound, so we decided to cover that one. We’re open minded musicians!
"Malae Artes" certainly made you famous, notably the shows you played internationaly, is this your point of view ?
Yes, our audience is increasing… ;))
Can we one day see you touring in Tunisia ?
We hope to visit your country soon ! If there is a management interested in MACBETH must contact our management to plan shows in your country…
Excepting you and Lacuna Coil, it’s difficult for us to have an idea about the Italian Gothic Scene ?
Is right ;) We don’t have a gothic scene…
The problem is that Italy doesn’t have a big metal or rock scene, metal is not the main music. It is always in the Underground. There are a lot of good bands and musicians but we don’t have support from the media, we’re not supported by big media like regular TV.
