Gus G (Firewind)Firewind headlined the “Rock à Radès” festival, last August in Tunisia . Before heading west for the upcoming US tour, Gus G (guitars) was kind enough to grant us an interview…

Hi Gus, and thank you for taking the time to reply to these questions. Can you cite any influences? Which bands or artists inspired you?
Quite many. Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Rainbow, Metallica, Megadeth, Manowar, etc.

You and Appolo made guest appearances on the previous Arch Enemy album, and you were their session guitarist during the Ozzfest in summer 2005. Are you also into more extreme metal?
Yes I like a lot of extreme Metal bands. Arch Enemy is a very melodic band if you take out the vocals, so it was fun to play their stuff.

You are the only member remaining from the original line-up. Is there a reason for these changes?
There’s always a reason for every change. Usually our past members had other priorities and were not so much into touring heavily. Those were the main reasons for changing singers and drummers especially in our past line-ups.

Tell us more about your newest album “Allegiance”? How came the idea of Tara ’s participation on “Breaking the Silence”?

I’ve known her for a few years and when we were in the studio she came down to see us. We had a problem with that song so I asked her if she could help out with some vocal ideas. She took the song home and came back to the studio few days later. She had the song written both lyrics and melodies. We were amazed by her ideas so we decided to make this into a duet between Apollo and Tara.

You’ve shot videos for 2 songs out of this album: “Falling to Pieces” and “Breaking the Silence”. Do you think videos have a great part in gaining success?

If they are great videos, yes definitely! These 2 videos we did with Patric Ullaeus gave us a lot of exposure and MTV airplay, something we didn’t have in the past. So, it helped a lot to have great videos like that.

How was it playing Tunisia for the first time?
It was a fantastic experience! The people were so cool and very passionate! Great crowd!! I hope we come back again.

What do you think about the metal scene in the Arabic countries? Have you heard any echoes?
I’ve only heard of Orphaned Land , they’re from Israel . I haven’t heard of any other bands.

You’ll be busy touring worldwide until the end of 2007. Do you already have any plans for a future album?
Yes, we will record it once the upcoming USA and Japan tours are completed. We will release it in early 2008.

Thanks Gus, and hope to see you again in Tunisia !
Thanx 4 the interview!!
